For more than twenty years, Mike Avila and his wife, Kellie, have called Atascadero home, raised their family here, and built successful small businesses in the community.

Mike and Kellie’s first business was a construction contracting firm specializing in federal public works and telecommunications projects. They later started a second business producing roadway safety signs, structures, products, and equipment. Together, they grew that business from the ground up to more than 100 employees. Through that experience, Mike understands firsthand what it takes to meet a payroll, create good jobs, manage budgets, and navigate the challenges facing small businesses.

Mike has also put his experience to work serving the community. As Atascadero’s representative on the San Luis Obispo County Planning Commission, he has worked to protect the quality of life that makes the area special while supporting responsible housing, economic development, and new opportunities for local families and businesses. His service on the Planning Commission has given him valuable experience balancing growth with the needs and priorities of residents.

Now, Mike is running for Atascadero City Council to bring his experience as a small business owner, job creator, and Planning Commissioner to City Hall. He believes local government should focus on the basics: keeping neighborhoods safe, maintaining roads and infrastructure, supporting a strong local economy, and protecting the character and quality of life that residents value.

Most importantly, Mike is a dedicated husband and father. He and Kellie raised their two children in Atascadero, and today both are proud parents of two adult children. For Mike, serving Atascadero is about helping ensure the community where his family built its life remains a great place to live, work, raise a family, and build a future.
